SA Unions support national vaccination campaign

September 08, 2021

South Australian unions are joining a national ad campaign to encourage Australians to get vaccinated to support essential workers and those who have lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

Workers in the eastern states have had their incomes and jobs devastated by lockdowns and restrictions. We are one outbreak away from that in South Australia and essential workers continue to be exposed to higher risks of contracting the virus. Healthcare workers in particular face months of trauma that can only be shortened by people getting vaccinated.

The ad will run on TV, YouTube and social media, you can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Qesf_M4xQ&ab_channel=AustralianUnions

Quotes attributable to SA Unions Secretary Dale Beasley

“South Australia lags behind the larger states in vaccine take up. Unions in this state are encouraging South Australians to get vaccinated to support the working people of our state: essential workers who expose themselves every day to keep the country running, hospital workers who face being overwhelmed with unvaccinated people and workers who have lost their jobs because of restrictions.”

“We need our workplaces and communities to be as safe as possible and high rates of vaccination are the only way to achieve this. High vaccination rates are also the only way to avoid the crippling lockdowns and restrictions with which have cost working people badly.

“40% of South Aussies are now in insecure work. The threat posed by lock downs is not sustainable, workers need to be vaccinated to protect their job security and incomes, as much as their health. “

“The choice to get vaccinated has life or death consequences, not just for you but for all the people you interact with, including frontline and essential workers. We do not want to see people conned by conspiracy theories on Facebook and ending up in ICUs as a result. “

“Vaccination is the most practical and useful way we can support each other and build a community with a strong shield that will keep us all safe. Safe at work, and safe outside of work. How strong our shield is depends on all of us making the choice to get vaccinated. We are calling on everyone to do their part so we can protect each other.”
