ONE
MONTH
LEFT FOR
PREMIER
RANN -
AND LOTS
OF
UNFINISHED
BUSINESS

SA
Unions
says
there is
one
thing
outgoing
Premier
Rann can
do to
cement
his
legacy -
and that
is to
make the
changes
to
WorkCover
he
promised
in 2010.
SA
Unions
Secretary,
Janet
Giles
says
that in
the
weeks
before
the last
State
election,
the
Premier
made a
personal
commitment
to
members
of the
union
movement
that he
would
amend
workers'
compensation
laws to
restore
fairness
for
injured
South
Australians.
"Premier
Rann
gave his
word
that he
would
stop the
grossly
unfair
way in
which
people
have
their
payments
suspended
if they
dispute
a
decision
- and
we're
still
waiting
for that
to
happen."
"This is
his
chance
to make
sure
people
remember
him as a
true
Labor
Premier
- one
who
stood up
for
South
Australians
injured
at
work."
Ms Giles
said
unions
have
been
fighting
for
three
years
against
the 2008
changes
to
WorkCover.
"Those
changes
to
WorkCover
were
aimed at
making
the
scheme
more
efficient
and
getting
people
back to
work
sooner -
but
barely
anything
has
changed."
"What we
see
three
years
later is
the
worst
return
to work
rates in
the
country,
parts of
the
scheme
under a
legal
cloud
after a
decision
by the
Supreme
Court
and
millions
of
dollars
being
wasted
on
doctors
instead
of being
spent on
retraining
people
so they
can get
back to
work."
"Unions
are
calling
on
Premier
Rann to
keep his
promise
and add
this one
to his
list of
achievements
in
office."
