SA
WORKING
PEOPLE
PUT
BUDGET
DEMANDS
ON THE
TABLE
3
June 2011
South
Australian
unions
have
released
a list
of
priorities
the Rann
Government
must
address
in its
Budget
next
week.
All
the
pubic
sector
unions
will
meet
today
(12.15
pm, PSA,
122
Pirie
Street,
Adelaide)
to
discuss
the
demands
and
finalise
plans
for a
huge
protest
on
Budget
day on
the
steps of
Parliament
House.
SA
Unions
Secretary,
Janet
Giles
says the
Premier
must
take
control
of the
budget
process
and
instruct
his
Treasurer
to put
working
South
Australians
first.
"Last
year's
budget
cuts are
being
rolled
out -
that
means
$2billion
in cuts
about to
hit the
community."
"There
will be
cuts in
services
across
the
board,
from
jobs in
the
public
sector
to
hospital
funding."
"And
the
South
Australian
community
now
faces
more
cuts on
top of
that
$2billion."
"We
want to
see a
budget
that
truly
represents
Labor
values,
one
which
supports
working
South
Australians
and the
most
vulnerable
in the
community."
"This
is
Premier
Rann's
chance
to show
us that
he
hasn't
lost
touch
with the
concerns
and
interests
of
ordinary
South
Australians
and that
he is
managing
the
economy
with
their
best
interests
at
heart."
Ten
things
working
South
Australians
want
from the
State
Budget:
-
More
help
for
people
struggling
with
ever-increasing
utility
bills.
-
An
end
to
the
cuts
in
services
which
support
our
most
vulnerable
people
and
take
the
pressure
off
their
cost
of
living.
-
A
reversal
of
the
cuts
to
leave
loading
and
long
service
leave
for
public
sector
workers.
-
A
commitment
to
honour
its
no
forced
redundancies
pledge
for
public
sector
workers.
-
A
commitment
to
negotiate
any
changes
to
their
employees'
working
conditions.
-
An
end
to
job
and
service
cuts
in
last
year's
Budget
that
reduce
services
to
the
community.
-
A
reversal
of
the
decision
to
sell
forestry
rights
in
the
South
East.
-
More
investment
in
community
services
so
they
can
pay
their
staff
the
outcome
of
the
FairWork
Australia
pay
equity
decision.
-
Improvements
to
WorkCover
to
protect
people
injured
at
work
and
get
them
back
to
work
sooner.
-
An
increase
in
mining
royalties
to
ensure
mining
companies
significantly
contribute
to
our
community
in
exchange
for
their
mining
rights.
