  As part of the agenda for the Climate Change Conference participants were asked to provide steps to addressing climate change:

Step 1
Addressing Climate Change at Work

 

  • Discuss today's message with others
 
  • Cross industry promotion, eg recycling of coat hangers/glass/plastics
 
  • Education of our members / workers of potential dangers to environment, eg fertilizers spilt into waterways
 
  • Educate workers with posters
 
  • Identify and talk about these issues in our workplaces
 
  • Provide information in the workplace on climate change issues
 
  • Campaign for use of non-toxic chemicals
 
  • Work in daylight rather than nights
 
  • Recycling
 
  • Set up sustainability group
 
  • Environmental audits in workplace
 
  • Do an energy audit
 
  • Use internal emails / paperless office
 
  • Look at food miles
 
  • Use organic / local produce
 
  • Car pooling
 
  • Managers sponsor bike riders to work
 
  • Interested member to start a green sustainable committee
 
  • Get speakers to speak to staff during lunch breaks
 
  • Have awards to recognise people who do positive things for the environment at work
 
  • Turn off power points when not in use, especially on weekends and after work
 
  • Canvass workers to create a database list of like-minded people
 
  • Set up teams to eco-map work areas and turn into whole workplace audit/plan
 
  • Have a monthly theme around which to share activities/ideas
 
  • Use natural waste / leaf litter for mulching
 
  • Help students to do environmental related presentations at assemblies
 
  • Install solar panels on roof
 
  • Green urinals / rest rooms etc
 
  • Run an energy saving suggestion scheme
 
  • Have input into building design
 
  • Ensure efficient plumbing / water usage
 
  • Check suppliers for recycling stationery
