The SA Unions U-Who Project is
hosting the national conference. Young workers from all over the
country are invited to come together, share their experiences and
hear first hand how the Federal Government’s Industrial Relations
legislation is impacting on young people.
Our target audience are young
people under the age of 30 who are working fulltime or combining
work and study.
Young people have been
significantly disadvantaged by the changes to work laws and
electoral enrolment procedures over the past year.
The conference theme is young
people working together to fight for their rights to a fair go in
the workplace.
The importance of enrolling to
vote and making informed choices on election day will be a
concurrent theme.
There will be three workshop
streams for the following groups:
·
High school and TAFE
students (an Integrated Learning Assessment Plan has been developed
for high school students)
·
Union Organisers,
union delegates and activists;
·
Community or
grassroots activists
Participants will develop action
plans based on the conference themes that can be implemented upon
their return to school, workplaces and local communities.
Guest speakers will include young
workers, advocates, parents, teachers and community leaders who will
all give different perspectives on the issues young people are
experiencing in today’s workplace.
But it won’t be a talk- fest! The
conference program will have a strong focus on building
relationships and team work through the use of creativity, energy,
fun and action-based activities.
Details about speakers, plenary
and workshop sessions will be available soon.
