RALLIES
OFF TO A STRONG START
28 June 2006
Thousands of people are expected to converge on Victoria Square at
12 noon to protest against the federal government's unfair new work
laws.
The national day of action got off to a strong start, with about
500 people attending a protest outside the office of the federal
Liberal member for Kingston, Kym Richardson at 7.30 this
morning.
It is estimated 600 people attended a 10 am rally outside the
office of the federal Liberal member for Makin, Trish Draper.
A third marginal Liberal seat will be targeted at noon, with a
protest outside the office of the federal member for Wakefield,
David Fawcett at Munno Para.
SA Unions Secretary, Janet Giles says the strong turnout
demonstrates that working families are hurting as a result of the
new work laws.
"These three marginal Liberal MP's supported laws which are
undermining the job security and incomes of working families.
We will be working hard in the lead up to the federal election to
get rid of these MP's, and in turn, get rid of the Howard Government
and its unfair, un-Australian laws", Ms Giles says.
