BAD
DECISION
9 June 2006
SA Unions is
angered by Industrial Minister Wright's decision to effectively sack
three State Industrial Relations Commissioners from August.
SA Unions
Secretary, Janet Giles says it is a bad decision and is calling on
the Minister to reconsider.
"We are strongly
opposed to this decision", Ms Giles says.
"We don't
believe that reducing the number of Commissioners will enable to
Commission to fulfil its obligations under the Act."
"A strong state
Industrial Relations Commission is crucial at this time."
"The SA IRC has
a critical role in maintaining minimum standards and entitlements
for workers. Despite the new federal laws, thousands of South
Australians remain under the state jurisdiction."
"We want a well
resourced South Australian Industrial Relations Commission to enable
us to continue to challenge these draconian federal laws," Ms Giles
says.
