Historic Asbestos Settlement

Today's historic compensation settlement for asbestos victims is a victory for justice and common sense.

While no amount of money can make up for the pain and suffering of victims and their loved ones, it will come as a relief that financial support is finally available. [21/11/06]

Jack Watkins Memorial Park

The Jack Watkins Park in Kilburn was completed and opened in 2003 on the cleaned up site of the old Islington Railway Yards.   The park is named in honour of Jack Watkins who has has been a tireless campaigner for the removal of asbestos over many years.

This site is well known as a place where a large number of workers died of asbestos related disease as a result of the work they were performing.  One of the worst jobs resulting in this large number of deaths was the removal of friable asbestos from railway carriages. [read on]
